Deep Learning - Face Mask Detection using Python


If you want to crack any Hackthon let it be the smart India Hackthon or TCS Humain  you should know to choose a project which is of disruptive business or good for society.

Let's analysis our project ."Face mask detection using machine learning " which falls under Good for society.   Under current COVID19 pandemic suitation, Face mask detection has become mandatory coz it can control the Corona virus spread by 70% and that can safe guard the human life in bigger margin. This detection methodology can help Police and Government authority to identify the people without mask in large crowd by strict survillance . Using this openCv survillance we can make sure that  people  follow mask rule by 100% accuracy and stop COVID19  . I will not be surprised to see  if  next year  smart India Hackthon carries a title" Face mask detection".

Some health authorities recommend that masks be worn by ill individuals to prevent onward transmission.Surgical face masks were originally introduced to protect patients from wound infection and contamination from surgeons (the wearer) during surgical procedures, and were later adopted to protect healthcare workers against acquiring infection from their patients. However, most of the existing evidence on the filtering efficacy of face masks and respirators comes from in vitro experiments with non-biological particles which may not be generalizable to infectious respiratory virus droplets. There is little information on the efficacy of face masks in filtering respiratory viruses and reducing viral release from an individual with respiratory infections and most research has focused on influenza.Surgical face masks significantly reduced detection of influenza virus RNA in respiratory droplets and coronavirus RNA in aerosols, with a trend toward reduced detection of coronavirus RNA in respiratory droplets.


First of all, we hope the people in the world defeat COVID-2019 as soon as possible.

We have used deep learning frameworks' model and inference code to do face mask detection.

It Detect faces and determine whether people are wearing mask.
